Halloween Vampire Teeth

Happy Halloween!!!

vampire tooth cookies

I was in Michaels last week and couldn't resist picking up a vampire tooth cookie cutter.  I knew I had seen these cookies on Sugarbelle's site a while back, so I decided to whip up a batch for our neighborhood Halloween party.  I was glad I did because the kids really got a kick out of them!  Check out some pictures on my facebook page here and here!

I hope everyone has fun trick or treating tonight!  We'll be taking this little monster around the neighborhood.

Not quite sure how he feels about that yet though :)

Happy Halloween!

Fall Cookie Bouquets

I've never made a cookie bouquet before, but when I got a request for 30 of them last month I figured, hey, why not?  Go big or go home :)

The bouquets were used as centerpieces for a company picnic that was held at the home of James Monroe in Charlottesville.  Luckily, it was a local event so I could assemble the buckets on site before the party started.

I wish that I could have gotten a picture of the tables after they were set, but they only had linens on them while I was there.  I'm sure they looked beautiful once the event planner was done with them though.

Figuring out the best way to assemble the buckets took some research online.  I ended up weighing down the buckets by filling the bottom with stones.  Then I cut squares of floral foam to fit in the buckets, leaving about 1" of space in the top (floral foam was easier to push the sticks into compared with styrofoam).  I filled the remaining space in the bucket with ivory crinkle paper, then pushed the sticks through.

Since they would be sitting on round tables, I arranged the bouquets so that they could be viewed from all sides.  I never thought that the floral design class that I took a few years ago would come in handy for cookie decorating :)

Overall, I thought my first cookie bouquets were a success.  I'm looking forward to doing these again!

Jungle Animal Baby Shower Favors

jungle animal baby shower favors

I've done these baby jungle animals before, but they got a makeover this time.  I used a pale yellow background to "girly" them up for a baby girl shower.  You can see them with a brown background as the "elaborate" example on my website.

They're also for sale on my new Etsy shop!

Henna-Inspired Wedding Cookies

I have to admit, I was really excited to work on this order and I really love the final result.  These cookies were requested for a bridal shower in the DC area.  The bride's family is from Bangladesh and several traditions such as henna tattoos were planned for the wedding.

The cookie platter incorporated the color scheme of the shower, hot pink and gold (LOVE), and various henna-inspired designs.  I added a few pops of white in the platter as well to break up all that pink.

All of the gold piping was done in yellow icing and then hand-painted with gold luster dust.  It's labor intensive but worth the extra effort!

The shower favors were a mix of hearts and wedding cakes.  They included the same henna designs and the couple's initials.  My client was kind enough to send some images of the cookies displayed at the shower which you can see on my Facebook page here.  I love seeing my cookies out "in the wild"!  Don't they look beautiful arranged with the other favors?

Before starting these cookies, I scoured the internet looking at various henna designs trying to choose the styles I wanted to use for the cookies.  What's your favorite design?  I think I really like the leaf style in the upper right cookie.  I'm sure there's all sorts of meanings associated that I'm completely ignorant to.  Hopefully they were appropriate for a bridal shower!

Here's a close up of two more of the platter cookies.  These are two of the more traditional wedding designs that I thought would work well as favors for any wedding or shower.

I hope that you all enjoyed these cookies as much as I did making them.  Best wishes Amira and Brian!

*Update 10/4/13*  Now you can buy these henna-inspired favors in our Etsy shop!
